CHS 6th Man Makes a Comeback
By Kevin Hernandez
They‘re back! Centennial‘s 6th Man has made a return after a year‘s absence. For those who don‘t know, 6th Man is Centennial‘s cheering section. The group gives students the chance to wear red, be loud, and support Centennial at athletic events. The group has returned thanks to a sociology project conducted by CHS students Brian Hashimoto, Richard Duffee, Sean Ford, and Doug Parker. The project was to pick an issue they have faced in society, and they chose school spirit. Recently, they have been set up outside the cafeteria selling newly designed t-shirts for students who sign up to join the club. ”(Our group) has gotten around 110 people to sign up for the t-shirts, said Hashimoto. We also have made a group on Facebook with announcements to get the word out.”
But this won‘t just stop once their project is completed and graded. Said Hashimoto, “After we will be graded on this, I will personally keep the group going, just because I feel like school spirit is one of the most important aspects of highs school, it’s the high school experience, and if you don’t have school spirit then your missing out on the high school experience.” The group also gives credit to Mr. Ahearn for suggesting the idea of bringing 6th Man back.
For those who are on the fence as to whether or not they want to join, Hashimoto offered some words of encouragement. “Joining 6th man will be a great opportunity to meet other people at your school, support our team, have fun, and really fulfill the high school experience.”
