CHS FEA travels to local elementary school
By Matt Hugel
The Centennial chapter of the Future Educators of America continues to uphold the Centennial commitment to excellence in and outside of the school. Recently, the club has completed a school wide school supply drive, donating the supplies to nearby Laurel Elementary School.
“ It’s really a really nice feeling helping people who are less fortunate than ourselves,” claims club Co-President, Veronica Collins.
The official description of the FEA is “A pre-collegiate program for educators,” but it is much more than that. A common misconception about FEA is that anyone who belongs wants to be a teacher in the future. “Many members want to improve on leadership skills. The club is basically for anyone who likes to help people,” says Collins. Centennial alumni have been well prepared by the FEA and several students are in the teaching tracks at University of Maryland College Park and Towson University.
Currently, the club consists of about ten members. Collins enjoys the meetings because “It is a nice small group, and no one is better than anyone else.” If you would like to join the FEA, now is the best time. Many activities are in the works including a college visit and a new teachers welcome breakfast.
